Dental occlusion characteristics in subjects with bruxism

Background and aims. Bruxism is associated with a variety of factors, some which are oral (occlusion, joint, face shape) while others systemic nature (respiratory, cardiac, neurotransmitters, stress). The relationship between bruxism occlusion has received great attention, but it still lot ambiguity. This study aimed at investigating the parameters that may affect bruxism: dental interferences or premature contacts, vicious habits, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, TMJ noises, morning fatigue, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, occur before bruxism, because chronic parafunction. 
 Methods. We conducted an observational, analytical case-control to determine association cavity factors as well general factors. Participants were chosen from group middle-aged Romanian population. An online questionnaire was used for data collection. A total one hundred subjects included in sample. Fifty cases group, another fifty persons similar ages control group. Statistical analysis performed using MedCalc version 20.110 software. Results. comprised 18 42 years old. most prevalent age range 20-25 years. female-male ratio almost similar; 62% participants had 10% awake 28% combined form. arithmetic means daily stress levels both research groups’ scores 3.0 3.24 work 3.04 3.41 Dental apnea evaluated. majority splint (n=26). Conclusions. stress, occlusal (premature contacts interferences), pathologies. not found be positively correlated syndrome. There moderately significant snoring. no evidence aesthetics, apnea. Treatment significantly improved quality life, masticatory functions.
